As part of its ongoing cost-savings initiatives, Accor has announced it wants to cut the headcount at its headquarters in France by 10 percent, or 230 workers. The global hotel/services group said it is seeking a voluntary separation plan that would reduce the staff at its global headquarters and the head office of its Hotellerie France unit, which currently have a combined total of about 2,300 employees.
"The hotel business continues to be impacted by the effects of an unprecedented worldwide crisis that led to a decline in first-quarter 2009 business and shows no prospects for improvement in the short term," the company said in a statement.
Accor said an agreement establishing the framework for negotiations has been signed with employee representatives for both of the French business units. It also said the exact terms of the support measures for people who want to take advantage of the voluntary separation plan will be announced once negotiations with employee representatives have been completed.
