Andaz, Hyatt's fledgling upscale flag for business travelers, will open two hotels in New York in 2010. The 253-room Andaz Wall Street, designed by Rockwell Group, is slated to open in January, while the 194-room Andaz Fifth Avenue, by designer by Tony Chi, will open in the second quarter of the year.
Rockwell's design for the Andaz Wall Street features a sculptural white staircase as the anchor for its public spaces, which are decorated with warm bamboo paneling, veined marble tabletops and a tree etched into a red lacquer wall. Guestrooms will have loft-like ceilings and swish marble bathrooms.
At the Andaz Fifth Avenue, Chi included elements like steel factory windows and a garden retreat in the center of the hotel. Guest rooms will include such whimsical touches as clear hanging racks on an open-faced closet (a reference to the display racks in the nearby Fashion District), and cloisonné foot baths.
The previous two Andaz locales – in London and West Hollywood – opened in 2007 and early this year, respectively.
