Aramark’s Burger Studio Makes College Cuisine High-Tech

(September 2009) posted on Fri Sep 25, 2009 EDT

First brand created specifically for college students

Good-bye steam table. Hello touch screen. Aramark is rolling out its Burger Studio on college campuses across the country. Using electronic, touch-screen ordering kiosks, students design their own meal. Selections include beef, chicken and veggie burgers with more than 30 toppings, cheeses and a variety of sauces. The first units are opening this fall at University of Delaware, University of Hartford, Middle Tennessee University, Missouri Western State University and Springfield College (Mass.) Additional units will come online beginning early in 2010.

Design elements were inspired by an artist's palette, inviting students to make their masterpieces. Just in case their minds are still on their studies, Burger Studio offers some design help—its vision of burgers created by Picasso, Van Gogh and Andy Warhol. And, yes, there are staff members who can help. They're the ones wearing the uniforms consisting of organic cotton tee-shirts, painter's hats and jeans.

All locations play up eco-friendly design, from sustainably sourced materials to energy efficient equipment. For example, countertops are made from bamboo with laminate made from coffee beans and recycled fibers.
