The Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation. The Barcelo Hotels & Resorts complex, built in 1985, includes five hotels with more than 2,000 guestrooms and suites, a casino, a golf course, a conference center and restaurants. The first phase will remodel the guest rooms, suites and public spaces in Barcelo Bavaro Palace Hotel. An additional 488 new junior suites also are being created. When complete later this year, the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Hotel will have 1,046 guest rooms and junior suites, featuring flat screen TVs, wireless internet connections, king size deluxe beds, environmentally friendly light systems and spa-style bathrooms.
The renovation is part of Barcelo's development of a luxury resort presence throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. The company has more than 30 hotels and resorts in the region, and owns or manages 183 hotels across 15 countries under the Barcelo Premium (luxury), Barcelo (upscale) and Barcelo Comfort (limited service) brands.
