Hotels have again been targeted by terrorists, this time in Baghdad, where three locales were heavily damaged by bomb blasts on Monday. According to a variety of news reports, the hotels in the Iraqi capital rocked by explosions were the Ishtar Sheraton, Babylon and al-Hamra hotels, all of which are popular with visiting business people and journalists.
At least 36 people died in the blasts, which took place the same day that the Iraqi government announced the execution of Ali Hassan al-Majid, a cousin of former leader Saddam Hussein. However, it was not clear whether the attacks and the execution were linked.
Terrorist attacks on hotels have been on the rise in recent years, with properties in Pakistan, Indonesia and India being among those to suffer such a fate.
