Brazil Tourism Doubling World's Average

(August 2008) posted on Tue Aug 26, 2008 EDT

Tourism activities in Brazil are growing twice as fast as the world's average, Brazil's tourism board reports. From January to July, tourism revenues totaled $3.4 billion, up from $3.2 billion a year earlier, the country's Central Bank reports. According to Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels Intelligence report, Brazil's hotel sector will benefit from this increased influx of foreign capital. "The most significant opportunity is to develop the underserved mid-market in secondary cities across the country," the report states. "International gateways such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro offer opportunities for most product types, and there is potential for resort development in a number of coastal areas."
