U.S. restaurant chain plans 50-plus locales in Canada
Buffalo Wild Wings plans to expand into the Canadian marketplace with a five-year plan that will involve opening more than 50 company-owned and franchised restaurants open across the country. The brand's first two Canadian locales are slated to open in spring 2011 in southern Ontario province – one in Oshawa, and the other in Mississauga.
“We believe Canadians' passion for sports and chicken wings is a great fit for us and is ideal for our first international location,” said Sally Smith, Buffalo Wild Wings' president and ceo. “We have significant growth plans for this market and feel that Canadians are ready for the great food and fun, social atmosphere that we offer.”
The company said Ontario will be the main focus of its first international foray, with up to 30 sites planned for that province. The company is looking to expand in British Columbia., Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan provinces as part of its five-year plan, and after that will target Quebec and the Maritimes.
In the U.S., Minneapolis-based Buffalo Wild Wings operates about 680 locales.
