Burger King's Whopper Bar spin-off debuted March 10 at Orlando's Universal CityWalk, rolling out a prototype design that puts a build-your-own-burger bar front and center. Display plays a big role in the new concept. Whopper Bars feature a highly visible "toppings theater" with more than 22 items from steak sauce to guacamole.Crews create custom sandwiches based on customers' choices.Colors take a more muted tack, with the emphasis on black, red and gray. Russ Klein, president, global marketing, strategy and innovation, says the chain plans to expand internationally within 12 months. A Munich restaurant will open this summer. Other targets include U.S. destinations such as New York and Los Angeles and overseas markets such as Singapore.
