Mexican concept plans major push in D.C. market
Utah-based Cafe Rio Mexican Grill will open its first restaurant in the Eastern U.S. later this month. The fast-casual chain will open an outlet April 27 in Olney, Md., the first of nine locations it plans in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
“Our Olney, Md., opening is a very significant milestone for Cafe Rio,” says president and ceo Bob Nilsen. “Since opening our first location in 1997, we have been a Western-based restaurant, and Olney will represent our huge transition to the East Coast.”
Cafe Rio Mexican Grills feature open-view kitchens and made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine. The company is based in Salt Lake City and currently operates 39 restaurants in Utah, Nevada, Idaho, California, Colorado and Arizona.
