HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) promoted Robert Ekman to vice president franchise development for North America and Greg Aden to regional vice president midscale franchise for the Western U.S. IHG also expanded vice president development Craig Mueller and regional vice president upscale brand development, Americas, Mike Higgins’ roles to include additional brands and territory.

Pinnacle Entertainment promoted Geno Iafrate to senior vice president of Louisiana operations, Keith Henson to vice president and general manager of L'Auberge Lake Charles and Sue Ascanio to senior vice president and general manager overseeing Belterra Casino and River Downs Racetrack.

The Marcus Corp. hired Bill Reynolds as senior managing director of MHR Capital, the firm’s new hotel investment business. Reynolds has more than 25 years of experience in commercial real estate investment.

Penn National Gaming hired Joe Hasson as general manager of the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Ind. He more recently worked for Station Casinos.

Hooters of America hired Trish Farley as controller overseeing the financial planning and accounting functions. Farley joins the company from AmRest, an Applebee’s franchisee.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

North Point Hospitality Group broke ground on a dual-branded hotel tower in Atlanta. The 226-key hotel building will house a Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton. Both will open in the first quarter of 2013.

The 185-key Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Boulevard completed a multi-million dollar renovation and redesign of its lobby, guest rooms and meeting space.

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants will open an Ocean Prime American supper club locale in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood in late October.

The Cheesecake Factory opened a 8,400-sq.-ft., 225-seat restaurant at The Shops at Pembroke Gardens in Pembroke Pines, Fla.

MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISTIONS

Chesapeake Lodging Trust has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the 613-key Denver Marriott City Center in Colorado for $119 million. The company intends to retain the existing management contract with Marriott.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Independent Hotel Group Worldhotels formed a partnership with Antoitalia Hospitality, an Italian real estate advisor and management firm. Worldhotels is expanding its current affiliation business model in the EMEA region.

AWARDS

Carlson chairman Marilyn Carlson Nelson will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) Jan. 23-25 in Los Angeles.
