HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS:

Marco Nijhof has been hired as chief operating officer of multi-brand hotel operator CHI Hotels & Resorts. Nijhof's career includes stints at the Kuwaiti Commercial Real Estate Center Co., Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, Serena Hotels and the Boscolo Group.

In the aftermath of Formosa International Hotels Corp.'s acquisition of Regent Hotels & Resorts, FIHC has named Regent founder Robert Burns honorary chairman to serve as the brand's visionary and Ralf Ohletz as its president. Ohletz previously worked with Regent co-founder Adrian Zecha for 25 years.

Millennium Hotels & Resorts has named Kathy Faulk general manager of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:

Marriott International said two newly constructed branded hotels in Atlanta are on track to gain LEED certification: the SpringHill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway, which the company says is expected to become the city's first LEED Gold hotel, and the Atlanta Marriott Gateway, which will open in August and is applying for LEED Silver status.

Seasons 52, a fresh grill and wine bar chain owned by Darden Restaurants, will open a locale in the Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Va., in 2011. The new locale will be the chain's first in that state and 18th overall.

HVS Eco Services has awarded ECOTEL certification to two Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd. resorts: the Club Mahindra Kodagu Valley Resort at Coorg, and Club Mahindra Varca Beach Resort at Goa.

ACQUISITIONS:

Chesapeake Lodging Trust has entered into definitive agreement to acquire the 430-room Boston Marriott Newton in Newton, Mass., for $77.25 million, or about $180,000 per key. The company said once the deal closes, it intends to hire a third-party manager to operate the hotel under its current franchise flag.

AWARDS:

LM Investment Management's $161 million acquisition of the Four Points by Sheraton, Darling Harbour Sydney, was named the 2010 Hotel Deal of the Year at the 10th annual Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Hotel Industry Conference. In addition, Koos Klein received the inaugural Legend Hall of Fame award at the conference. Klein, who retired in 2008, worked forAccor and Hilton in the region.

William Pedersen, founding partner of international architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
