Denver-based Chipotle Mexican Grill is extending its Earth-friendly practices to the design of its stores. The chain, which uses organic or naturally raised ingredients in its menu offerings, is seeking LEED certification for a new store that will open this fall in Gurnee, Ill. The store will be constructed with recycled drywall, recycled barn metal and low-VOC primers and paints. Plans also call for low-flow plumbing, LED lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances powered by a 6-kilowatt wind turbine.
