Budget restaurant chain plans 500 added restaurants

CiCi's Pizza said it plans to nearly double in size over the next five to six years, by opening 500 restaurants during that period. The Texas-based chain, whose centerpiece is a $4.99 pizza/pasta/salad/dessert buffet, currently has about 600 locales.

CiCi's has hired industry veterans Bill Spae and Nancy Hampton to oversee its expansion drive. Spae brings more than 30 years of experience as a president, ceo, investor and franchisee to his position as Cici's chief development officer, while Hampton, a 20-plus year restaurant veteran, will serve as chief marketing officer. Her career includes stints at Chili's Bar & Grill and Corner Bakery Café.

“CiCi's Pizza has an opportunity to double in size,” Spae said. "The company's value proposition will remain attractive in the marketplace going forward, and CiCi's pizza buffet is a simple concept that translates well to all kinds of customers.”

The company's target markets for expansion include the Inland Empire in Southern California, Chicago, upstate New York, Philadelphia, Miami and Phoenix.
