Guilan complex to open at former Relais & Chateaux site
Club Med has unveiled plans to open its second resort in China. The destination, currently a Relais & Chateaux site, is located in Guilin, in China’s southern Guanxi Province.
Club Med said the new resort will open in a “pre-launch mode” in the summer of 2012, and be fully aligned with Club Med standards by 2013. Club Med will operate the resort through a 10-year management contract with site owner, ChinaPaoShan.
The future 4-Trident resort, which will cater to families, will open with 162 rooms split between a main building housing 116 rooms and a "chateau" with 46 rooms, most of them suites. Club Med says it plans to expand the resort to more than 300 rooms in the summer of 2013. The resort will also have a conference center, two swimming pools, a fitness room and a spa.
Opening the Guilin resort is part of Club Med’s longer-term goal to strengthen its presence China’s upscale resort market, by opening five locations between now and 2015.
