HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS:
Choice Hotels International Inc. has promoted Mark Pearce to senior vice president, international division.
Ruth's Hospitality Group Inc. has promoted Kevin Toomy to president and chief operating officer of its Ruth's Chris Steak House unit and Samuel Tancredi to president and chief operating officer of its Mitchell's Fish Market brand.
Bob Battista has been named vice president of commercial sales for MirrorMate, a custom framing system for plate-glass bathroom mirrors in hotels, resorts, timeshares and other commercial properties.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:
The Gansevoort South Hotel in Miami Beach has appointed Coral Hospitality to manage operations at the hotel and its adjacent condominium residences. The 334-room hotel recently underwent a $100 million renovation.
JAL Hotels Co. Ltd. has opened a new wing with an additional 42 executive rooms at the Hotel Nikko Düsseldorf, after a major two-year renovation. The hotel now offers 386 rooms and suites in eight different categories, as well as 18 conference facilities, making it Düsseldorf's largest downtown hotel
Access Hotels & Resorts has added the 385-key The Wilshire-Los Angeles to its management portfolio of upscale properties.
The 183-room Doubletree Hotel Libertyville-Mundelein has opened in the northwest Chicago suburbs. The property is operated by Williamsburg Hotel Co., under a franchise agreement with Hilton Worldwide.
AWARDS
Leland Pillsbury, co-chairman and ceo of Thayer Lodging Group, has been given the 2010 Pioneer Award by International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC). The annual award recognizes an individual or organization that dramatically improves or makes dynamic contributions to the hospitality industry in one or more of the following specialties: consulting, planning, developing, marketing and/or managing. The award was presented to Pillsbury at the recent Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) in San Diego.
BUSINESS BRIEFS
Andis Co., a manufacturer of handheld tools to trim, cut, curl, straighten and dry hair, is adding 50,000 square feet of manufacturing/warehouse space at its headquarters in Sturtevant, Wis. The company, whose client base includes hotels, motels and resorts, plans to open the addition this summer.
Hastings Tile & Bath is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
