The $3.9 billion Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has started accepting room reservations for a Dec. 15 opening. The two-tower, 2,995-room casino resort – which has experienced its share of financial difficulties and delays – is the last mega-resort likely to open on the fabled Strip for the foreseeable future.
The Cosmopolitan is situated on an 8.7-acre tract between CityCenter and the Bellagio. The new resort will feature oversized residential-style living spaces and private terraces. The interiors are being designed by a team that includes David Rockwell, Jeffrey Beers, Adam D. Tihany and the Friedmutter Group.
Resort features include 100,000 sq. ft. of casino space; 60,000 sq. ft. luxury retail space, a 43,000-sq.-ft. spa/health club/salon complex and three pools experiences. It will also feature several new-to-Las Vegas restaurants, including Jaleo and China Poblano restaurants by Chef Jose Andres, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill by restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg; Comme Ca by Los Angeles chef David Myers; New York City's Estiatorio Milos by restaurateur Costas Spiliadis; Scarpetta and D.O.C.G. by award-winning chef Scott Conant; and steakhouse STK by The One Group.
The Cosmopolitan's original developer, Ian Bruce Eichner, defaulted on a $760 million loan for the complex in 2008, forcing lender Deutsche Bank AG to foreclose on the project. Deutsche Bank wound up paying about $1 billion to take over ownership of the development, and then moved ahead with plans to complete it.
