Could Wendy’s/Arby’s Be Krispy Kreme’s Parent?

Rumor mill churns around chatter about a possible takeover

Wendy's/Arby's Group has been hungry for the right acquisition. As reported by Barron's on Briefing.com, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts could be a tempting target. The shares of both companies rose on this morning's speculation about a takeover.

Krispy Kreme has had fairly good news during tough times. It posted a 5.9 percent boost in same store sales in September, announced good results from its smaller retail concept stores and continues testing a soft-serve ice cream line to diversify its menu.

Wendy's/Arby's Group, which brought the two quick service brands together in a merger last fall, has been harder hit, with comparable store sales flat for Wendy's but down 9 percent for Arby's.  Neither company has commented on the record as of presstime.
