Palais Stephanie hotel to fly company’s luxury flag next year
Marriott International Inc. announced that the Palais Stephanie hotel in Cannes, France, will become a member of its JW Marriott Hotel brand in early 2011. The 261-key hotel, on Cannes' famous La Croisette, will operate under the Marriott flag via a management agreement with owner Jesta Group.
The hotel was built on the former site of the Palais des Festivals of Cannes, the original site of the city's famed International Film Festival from its inception in 1946 to the mid 1980s. Recently renovated, the hotel is now home to a design that pays tribute to such legendary film stars as Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Elizabeth Taylor.
“We are thrilled with this opportunity to bring our JW Marriott brand to Cannes,” said Amy McPherson, president and managing director for Marriott International in Europe. “JW Marriott is one of the world's fastest-growing luxury brands, and as we continue to grow throughout Europe we are very excited to add this spectacular hotel in such a superb location to our collection in partnership with the Jesta Group.”
The Cannes announcement reflects Marriott's aggressive expansion plans for the JW Marriott brand. The company plans to add another 20 properties to the flag over the next five years, bringing its total portfolio to more than 65 hotels in 27 countries.
