D-Ash Design Hires Creative Director … And More

HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES

New York-based interior design firm d-ash design hired Jhipo Hong as creative director. Jhipo has more than 20 years experience in branded retail environments, including work for Macy’s and Tommy Hilfiger.

Castle Resorts & Hotels promoted Steve Woods to corporate director of e-commerce. Woods formerly served as director of marketing for The Spencer on Byron Hotel in New Zealand and Castle's Oceania headquarters.

Isle of Capri Casinos promoted Arnold Block to chief operating officer. Block joined the company as senior vice president of the Isle brand in 2008.

Nancy Jackson, president of Architectural Systems Inc., was inducted into her fourth term as an International Interior Design Association (IIDA) board member for the New York chapter. 

California Faucets hired Steven Weinberg as national sales manager. Weinberg is the current president of the Decorative Plumbing & Hardware Association (DPHA).

Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. hired Eric Rosenzweig as chief information officer. He formerly served as vice president of information technology for Petco Animal supplies.  

Real Mex Restaurants hired Edie Ames as chief operating officer. Ames joins the company from Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, a boutique steakhouse company.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

Jumeirah Restaurants opened The Ivy restaurant on the ground floor of The Boulevard, Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai. The restaurant was designed by Martin Brudnizki.

Gaylord Entertainment plans to open a 1,500-key luxury and convention hotel in Aurora, Colo., in 2015.

The Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers completed phase one of its $150 million renovation, which included revamping the hotel’s 1,080 guest rooms and the Sheraton Club Lounge.

The 194-key InterContinental São Paulo in Brazil has completed the initial phase of a multi-phase renovation, which included the lobby, restaurant and half of its guest rooms.

Minneapolis-based design studio Blu Dot opened a store on Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles.

MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITIONS

Hong Kong-based New World Hospitality has signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire Rosewood Hotels & Resorts from Rosewood Corp. and Maritz, Wolff & Co. for $229.5 million.  

Urgo Hotels has acquired the 75-room Blue Moon Hotel and the 71-room Winterhaven Hotel in a joint venture with The Carlyle Group for $26.7 million. Both hotels are located in the art deco district of South Beach in Miami. 

The 99-key Hotel Schweizerhof, Bern’s original luxury hotel, reopened as part of the Design Hotels portfolio following major renovations.

AWARDS

Architecture firm Foster + Partners announced that Norman Foster was presented with the 2011 Save the Children Award, given by Save the Children Spain, for his longstanding relationship with the charity and humanitarian work.

Outdoor furniture manufacturer Gloster named Charlie Hesson retail rep of the year for the second year in a row.
