Disney Resorts Abuzz with Hotel Work

(June 2009) posted on Thu Jun 18, 2009 EDT

The house the Mouse built is experiencing some hotel-related developments on both coasts: At the Disney Resort in Anaheim, Calif., the 970-room Disney Hotel will undergo a significant renovation starting in August. Shortly after that, Holiday Inn will open a new 323-room hotel in the Disney Resort in Orlando, Fla.

The 54-year-old Disney Hotel will get a new look, both inside and out. The guest rooms will feature an all-new contemporary look, with Disney touches woven into the décor. A headboard featuring a carved representation of Disneyland Park's famous Sleeping Beauty Castle will serve as the focal point in each room. The background on the headboard will use fiberoptics to create a magical skyline with fireworks - bringing the park experience into the room. Rooms also will feature black and white art that will take guests back in time, reinforcing the nostalgia and history of Disney's first theme park.

The hotel's three towers will also sport an updated look, with large windows that will give the outside a sleek, radiant blue tint. The windows will replace the current sliding doors and faux balcony railings, and are designed to be energy efficient and filter out external noise. The hotel will remain open during the renovation, which will be conducted in phases over the next three years.

At the Florida park, the new 14-story Holiday Inn will bear that flag's updated look, which parent company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) began rolling out in 2007.
