Work also underway on new cruise ship that will serve the island
Disney is enhancing facilities on Castaway Cay, its 1,000-acre private island in the Bahamas that serves as a destination for passengers on the company’s cruise line. Disney’s plans for the island include 20 new private cabanas, an expanded water play area and an extended beach for families.
“The numerous enhancements and additions planned for Castaway Cay will take the already extraordinary guest experiences on our private island to the next level,” said Disney Cruise Line president Karl Holz.
The new island amenities are set be to complete by summer 2010, in time for stops by the Disney Wonder cruise ship. A new vessel – the 1,250-cabin Disney Dream – will also make stops at the island after it starts sailing in early 2011. Disney recently announced that the Dream’s keel has been laid, a significant milestone in its construction. (A fourth ship in the Disney line, the Disney Fantasy, is slated to go into service in 2012.)
