European chain hoteliers suffered substantial drops in demand and profit in August, a HotStats survey from TRI Hospitality Consulting found. Of the 10 city markets surveyed on the continent, average occupancy fell in nine, while profit fell in eight. Average occupancy dropped the most in Vienna, down 12.4 points to 71.6 percent. Performance remained steady in London with daily income before fixed charges of about $111.28 per available room, and the highest average occupancy, at 84.6 percent. Paris reported the highest achieved average room rate, up 5.8 percent year-on-year to $313.15.
