MGM Resorts International files plan to demolish what was to have been Foster + Partner’s luxury gem in Las Vegas.

The soap opera surrounding CityCenter’s Harmon Hotel, Spa & Residences is just about over. MGM Resorts International issued a letter to Clark County officials outlining plans to demolish the luxury hotel designed by the luxury architectural firm, Foster + Partners. As we reported in today's headlines, the casino operator alleges that the tower is structurally unsound and cannot be repaired.
Originally touted as a property that would usher in a new era of architectural sophistication for Las Vegas hotels, the mixed use hotel/residence complex has seen its fortunes fall along with the economy. First, 207 residences were deleted. Then, the building was downsized from 47 stories to 27. Add to that the lawsuits between MGM and the general contractor, Perini Building Co.
