Element Lexington is the first Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. hotel to earn the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. Starwood's flagship Element, which opened in July, is also the first hotel in Massachusetts to achieve LEED certification. Design features that helped Element Lexington earn its certification include the use of paints, adhesives and carpeting with low airborne pollutants, as well as large guest room windows and open interior spaces that make the most of daylight, including the lobby's window wall. Earning LEED certification was Starwood's goal when it launched the Element brand in 2006. With two other locations in Houston and Las Vegas, there are 30 more new-build Element hotels in the pipelines.
