HIRINGS AND PROMOTIONS:
Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. has promoted Filip Boyen to chief operating officer and Phillip Gesue to vice president, real estate.
Vail Resorts Inc. has promoted Paul Toner to senior vice president and chief operating officer of its RockResorts and Vail Resorts Hospitality units.
Hilton Hotels has appointed Kurt Weber senior director brand performance support, managed portfolio.
Choice Hotels International Inc., a franchiser of more than 5,900 hotels, has hired Edward Valle as its chief marketing strategist. Valle was previously vice president of marketing for Panera Bread Co.
Penn National Gaming Inc. has named Jon Johnson general manager of Empress Casino Hotel in Joliet, Ill., subject to regulatory approval.
OPENINGS, RENOVATIONS AND BRAND NEWS:
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has opened the 151-room Four Points by Sheraton Navi Mumbai, Vashi, the first representative of that flag in India. Starwood also said it has reached an agreement to open the 115-room Four Points by Sheraton, Jaipur City Square next month.
The Tropicana Las Vegas hotel/casino complex, which is undergoing a $125 million renovation, has opened two new restaurants, the Havana Go Go Cafe and Bacio Pasta & Vino.
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) announced that the $22 million, 148-room Holiday Inn Irvine South/Irvine Spectrum will open within a month in Lake Forest, Calif.
Therese Virserius Design announced it has been hired to create a new lobby/lounge/bar for the Tudor City Hilton in New York. Work on the 4,200-square-foot space is scheduled to begin in November and be completed next spring.
BUSINESS BRIEFS:
Marriott International Inc. has entered a partnership with the Australian Indigenous Minority Supplier Council (AIMSC), becoming the first lodging company to participate in a pilot program through 2012. The initiative will help identify local suppliers to provide services for multiple hotels in Australia.
Hamburg, Germany-based JOI-Design, marking its 25th year in business, has published its first book, entitled “Raum Werte: Creating Hospitality Design.” In addition to case studies of the firm's hotel and restaurant designs, the 224-page book features a chapter in which futurologists look forward to the hotel trends of 2015.
