Restaurants’ design mimics a ‘rock-and-roll road house’
The Freebirds World Burrito restaurant chain plans to double its locations in 2010. The Austin, Texas-based restaurant chain, which currently operates 26 locales, plans to add 26 more in Texas, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Southern California this year. The company said many of those locales will be near college campuses, including one adjacent to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles that's slated to open this summer.
Freebirds says its restaurants feature “a free spirited atmosphere reminiscent of a late 60's rock n' roll road house.” Design features include the company's backwards “F” logo, music lyrics scrawled across the walls and Statue of Liberty ("Libby”) figures seated astride a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that's suspended from the ceiling.
Freebirds is owned by Tavistock Restaurants LLC, parent company to eight concepts ranging from fast-casual to upscale. In addition to Freebirds, Tavistock's restaurant concepts include ZED451, Napa Valley Grille, Alcatraz Brewing Co., California Café, Café del Rey, Blackhawk Grille and Sapporo Scottsdale.
