Today’s blog is about a project. Maybe we’re just getting sick of the gray weather, but the exotic style of this property seemed like just the right escapist aesthetic. It’s a fresh way of melding the quiet serenity of a typical resort and the dramatic flair of an eco-retreat.

It’s nothing new to offer business connectivity in a hotel whose setting grab eco-tourists and beachgoers and well as BlackBerry addicts. What the new Mercure Krabi Deveena saw was an opportunity to look beyond the neutral interiors and minimalist aesthetic that informed so many resorts to find a more sensous look. So, they started by looking at the brightest aspect of their environment—the birds.

Behind the front desk, giant golden birdcage-like structures sit in the wall. The guest rooms are colored in warm, inviting shades reminiscent of tropical birds. All of the hotel’s restaurants are named after birds-- the Kingfisher Restaurant, Starling Lobby Lounge and the Sun Bird Pool Bar .
