Pantone’s 2012 pick promises to be a bright spot in design.

When Benjamin Moore released its 2012 color, a timeless blue-green, next year looked like it could be a strong showing for the neutral set. Pantone, however is seeing the world through orange-tinted glasses. Tangerine Tango is a vibrant red-orange that pretty much defines the concept of a color pop.
It’s not surprising that now is the time for brights. Not only do those quiet palettes need an accent, color and texture are such vital design tools. Dramatic paint jobs or creative surfacing decisions make a big impact without breaking the bank. Hotel Missoni makes the case for brights as a basic. Aside from the fashion company’s signature stripes, colored walls give the design a strong framework, rather than a blank canvas.
The white, square box is quickly disappearing as a base for design. Exciting new shades form part of the backbone of design that adds drama from the room’s shell. Hue is also a key component of the molded and curved walls that dominate today's modernist style.
