You might think you’ve seen every way designers can play with proportion—think three-legged stools, beds barely off the ground or mirrored ceilings—but the possibilities really are endless. Today, we’re bringing you a round-up of concepts that utilize geometric outlines to pack a powerful visual punch.

Corque Design’s Cork Lounge Chair takes the relaxed lines of a lawn chair and gives it an elegant uplift with an inventive and sustainable material. Like the chair, Opera Contemporary’s Tosca bed makes its impact through drama rather than detail. Its curvy shape and generous scale create a focal point without the harshness more severe headboard styles create. Accessories that merge organic and geometric shapes are the detail of the moment. The Brenda Houston Collection’s Angelina lamp gets its sparkle from a crystalline base.

In an era of budget-conscious designs, color and shape have never been more important. Interesting palette choices and cutting-edge lines have taken over from opulent surfaces in many cases. The new generation of practical objets d'art gives designers another tool in the style arsenal.
