We see a lot these days that focuses on eco-conscious design. From paint to FF&E, sustainability is more than a buzzword—that’s why we are devoting our Spring issue to it. What sometimes gets lost in translation is the aesthetic of reclaimed in design. Haven Gastropub + Brewery makes its design statement around just that. Working around the idea of salvage as a focal point, the 182-seat restaurant used large-scale pieces to give the 1920’s space a modern feel.

Walking into Haven, the design agenda presents itself immediately—in the form of a 10-ft. recycled wood and metal cutout wall called, appropriately, “The Salvage.” The Dining Experience Room also has a unique wood and metal light. The theme continues with distressed wood tables and rustic wrought iron chandeliers.

Using salvaged material in an old building can help give a space a consistent feel, but it also runs the risk of losing the contemporary impact of the space. Haven counteracted that with an electronic board listing the beer choices and the staple of modern restaurant design, the exposition kitchen.
