Proposed Massachusetts destination would have green focus
Gensler has been hired to oversee the design of MGM Resorts International’s proposed Rolling Hills Resort project in Brimfield, Mass. MGM officials say the choice of Gensler is in keeping with MGM's commitment to sustainability.
“We don’t believe development should come at the cost of natural beauty," said Jim Murren, MGM's chairman and ceo. “Gensler is a company that shares our green values and we are proud to have them joining our Brimfield team.”
Details on the size and scope of the resort have not yet been disclosed. The Las Vegas Review-Journal notes that MGM is is one of several companies seeking a single gaming license in Western Massachusetts, including Ameristar and Penn National Gaming.
MGM said it signed a contract at the start of this year with of Rolling Hills Estates Realty Trust to option 150 acres of land in Brimfield for the development. MGM said it plans “a New England-style resort in the woods that draws inspiration from its natural setting” on the parcel, which is just north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, about 65 miles west of Boston.
