Blum Enterprises LLC has opened the Green Canteen in Brooklyn, N.Y., the first restaurant in New York state to gain silver status under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program. The eatery's eco-friendly features include a community table made of reclaimed wood, a solar panel hot water system, low-flow plumbing fixtures and a commitment to 100 percent wind-energy usage. In addition, most of the design and construction materials for restaurant were sourced form local manufacturers, suppliers and vendors.
