Hilton Worldwide has hired Michael Ford as vice president, global diversity, and Jennifer L. Silberman, as vice president, corporate responsibility.
Tropicana Entertainment has hired Jeff Michie as general manager of its Horizon Casino Hotel in Vicksburg, Miss., and named Ward Shaw to general manager at its Casino Aztar in Evansville, Ind.
OPENINGS, RENOVATIONS AND BRAND NEWS
Hilton Worldwide and the City of Omaha, Neb., have announced plans for a 15-month, $35 million update to the Hilton Omaha convention center hotel. The project includes a six-floor addition over the existing parking structure that will house 150 added guest rooms, along with a second ballroom with about 7,000 sq. ft. of space.
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and Oxford Select Investors-Broomfield LLC have opened the 123-key Hyatt Summerfield Suites Boulder/Broomfield in Colorado. McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants Inc. has opened its third locale in Houston.
The 372-key Sheraton Richmond West in Richmond, Va., will become the Ramada Plaza Hotel Richmond West on June 28.
The Doubletree Hotel Dulles Airport-Sterling has opened in Sterling, Va. The 171-room property is operated by Steeplechase Hospitality, LLC, under a franchise agreement with a subsidiary of Hilton Worldwide.
AWARDS
W Hotels Worldwide, in partnership with Design Miami/Basil, announced that the following firms have won the W Hotels Designers of the Future Awards: Beta Tank; Graham Hudson; rAndom International; and Zigelbaum + Coelho.
Interface FLOR announced that its Memphis collection won a Best of Neocon Gold in the carpet: modular tiles category at the recent NeoCon World's Trade Fair in Chicago. The collection consists of four lines: Beale Street, Union Avenue; Doodle and Memphis to Milan and Back.
CoveringsETC announced that its eco-brand Bio-Glass has been nominated for the German Designpreis award. Designpreis is an invitational competition to which the entrants are nominated by the Ministries and Senators for Trade & Industry of the German States or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
Matthew Hall, managing editor of Hospitality Style and Boutique Design, won 2nd place in the best headline category in the Greater Cincinnati Society of Professional Journalists' 2010 Excellence in Journalism contest. His winning entry was “Born to be Styled,” which ran with the profile of the Iron Horse Hotel that appeared in the January 2009 edition of Hospitality Style.
