HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS:
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has named George Kalogridis, a 38-year veteran of the company, president of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. Kalogridis was previously chief operating officer at Disneyland Resort Paris.
Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. has named Todd George vice president and general manager of its new River City Casino in south St. Louis County, which is scheduled to open in spring 2010. In addition, the company has named Kim Townsend vice president and general manager of its Lumiere Place casino-hotel complex in St. Louis and Jeff Babinski general manager of Boomtown Reno, the company's casino-hotel in Verdi, Nev.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed an agreement with Leisure Holidays Private Ltd. to take over the Kandooma Maldives resort on Kandooma Island on November 1 and rebrand it as the Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma. The 160-room property is first Holiday Inn Resort in the Republic of Maldives.
The Four Points by Sheraton Chicago O'Hare Airport hotel is putting the final touches on a $5 million renovation that included upgrades to its lobby, guest rooms, restaurant and fitness center. The renovation of the 295-room property is part of the Four Points by Sheraton global revitalization campaign that's been undertaken by parent company Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.
Desires Hotels International is expanding into Honduras with the Blue Ocean Reef Resort, which will feature 17 luxury villas when it opens in December on the island of Roatan.
Bluewater Grill has opened a restaurant in Phoenix, its first outside California. The company's fourth locale is in the former Fish Market Phoenix, in the city's Camelback neighborhood.
Sunstone Hospitality Management, a division Interstate Hotels & Resorts, has entered into a contract to manage the Radisson Hotel Denver Stapleton Plaza in Denver. The 300-room hotel is owned by the Holualoa Cos.
Newcrest Hotels has opened an 84-room Holiday Inn Express in Paris, Texas, and an 87-room Holiday Inn Express in Texarkana, Ark.
The 300-room Oasis Hotel will open at VictoryLand Greyhound Park in Shorter, Ala., on Nov. 1. An adjoining, 80,000-square-foot conference center is slated to open in late 2010.

AWARDS:
ENVY Modular Wall Systems LLC of Las Vegas was recently named a winner in the U.S. EPA's Green Building Challenge for its modular temporary construction wall/barricade, which consists of panels and extruded joining parts that are recyclable, reusable and can be recycled into new products with zero waste. The system is being used in MGM Mirage's CityCenter project in Las Vegas, where it is expected to conserve more than 100 tons of construction debris.
