Some Chinese hoteliers are seeking delays in InterContinental Hotel Group's $1 billion Holiday Inn rebranding program, The (United Kingdom) Independent reports. More than 3,000 Holiday Inns are involved in the makeover worldwide, but owners in China complain that their country's financial crisis will make it difficult for them to make all the necessary changes by the 2010 completion date. "Some of the IHG hotel owners association members believe that the period for rebranding is too short and we will ask InterContinental's management if the period for completion can be delayed for one or two years," Martin Jia, the head of the IHG hotel owners association in China, told the newspaper. IHG currently operates about 100 hotels in China and has another 100 in the pipeline.
