Holland America Ships Undergo Renovation

Holland America Line (HAL) is revamping the centrally located bars and lounges on five of its ships: the ms Statendam, ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam, ms Veendam and ms Rotterdam. The new social/entertainment space, part of HAL's $200 million "Signature of Excellence" upgrade program, will incorporate three themed bars: Martinis, Champagne and Spirits & Ales. The first dry-dock period for making the renovations will involve the Veendam in spring 2009, and the last will be completed on the Maasdam in late 2010. While out of service, the ships will also have their aft deck expanded to create a new resort pool concept. In addition, existing staterooms will be upgraded, and new staterooms will be added to the ships. Overall, HAL is investing $525 million in upgrades to its fleet.
