HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES

Cosi Inc., a convenience restaurant company, hired Carin Stutz as its president and ceo, effective Jan. 1. Stutz, who will also join the board, was formerly president of global business development at Brinker International restaurants.

ROJO Architecture has hired Jamie Inskeep to manage the firm’s interior design practices, including hospitality, medical and custom residential. The company also hired John Greenland and Jose Calle as project managers.

HVS Executive Search hired Court Williams as partner North America. Williams has more than 20 years of executive search experience in restaurants and hotels.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

The Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach in Hawaii opened the 190-key Pali Tower, the first of the two planned hotel towers. The second, Diamond Tower, will feature an additional 236 rooms when it opens in spring 2012.

The 128-key Fairfield Inn Los Cabos opened in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The 120-key Fairfield Inn Queretaro is also slated to open in fall 2012.

The 372-key Cleveland Airport Marriott in Ohio recently underwent a $22 million renovation that includes an updated lobby concept and the new Amp 150 restaurant.

The Old Edwards Inn and Spa in the resort town of Highlands, N.C., is adding 22 new guest rooms and an outdoor heated mineral pool to the 68-key property. The addition will be completed in the first quarter of 2013.

MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITIONS

Host Hotels & Resorts has terminated its agreement to acquire the 888-key Grand Hyatt Washington D.C. and forfeited a $15 million deposit. The company did not offer an explanation for backing out of the deal, but says it still expects to pursue other acquisition opportunities in 2012. 

Omni Hotels & Resorts will reflag a South Carolina resort as the 295-key Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort as part of a long term management agreement. The property, which has been managed by Omni’s sister company Allegiance Hospitality since 2003, will undergo a multi-phased renovation in 2012.

Marshall Hotels & Resorts added five contracts to its management portfolio: the 142-key Radisson Hotel Cleveland Gateway in Ohio; the 80-key Holiday Inn Express Braselton, the 139-key Hampton Inn Atlanta/Marietta, and the 66-key Hampton Inn Cartersville, all in Georgia; and the 113-key Hampton Inn & Suites, which is currently under construction in Ocean City, Md.
