Hotel Development Booms in Mumbai

(October 2008) posted on Tue Oct 07, 2008 EDT

Mumbai, India's financial capital, could see more than 3,000 additional hotel rooms open in the next three years, according to a report by Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels. Of that total, just over half the new rooms are expected to open this year, the study concludes. "Demand for rooms will remain strong with expectations of a steady increase in arrivals, generating healthy yield across the market," the report said. The study found most of the new projects were local brands, but that international players such as Four Seasons and Accor's Sofitel are also entering the market. Mumbai currently has 74 government-approved hotels with a total of 9,503 rooms.
