HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/ANNIVERSARIES

Strategic Hotels & Resorts promoted Richard Moreau to executive vice president and chief operating officer. He was formerly executive vice president, asset management. 

Towne Park, a valet parking, parking management and hospitality staffing services provider, promoted Todd Cline to vice president of sales hotel division. Cline previously served as a vice president of operations.

Fazoli’s quick-service Italian restaurant hired Al Hodges as vice president of operations. Hodges joins the company from Dunkin’ Brands.

Kurt Ritter, Rezidor’s president and ceo, is celebrating his 35th anniversary with the Swiss hotelier. Ritter has held his current posts since 1989.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS

Marriott International opened the 304-key Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel.

DoubleTree by Hilton Querétaro opened in Mexico. The hotel is the first DoubleTree locale in Mexico, and will operate under a management agreement with Hilton Worldwide.

The 334-key Hotel Nikko Saigon, a new five-star addition to the Nikko Hotels International group, will open Dec. 18 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Room Mate Hotels, a collection of 15 boutique hotels, reopened the 44-key Waldorf in Miami following renovations.

Johnny Rockets opened restaurants at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Oklahoma State University.

MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITIONS

Red Lion Hotels Corp. has signed franchise license agreements with the owner of two Best Western locales in New Mexico. Both hotels will undergo conversions and will be rebranded in the fall as the 192-key Red Lion Hotel Farmington and the 126-key Red Lion Hotel Gallup, respectively.

A joint venture between InSite Group and affiliates of The Carlyle Group has acquired the 243-room Continental Bayside Hotel in Miami. The hotel will undergo a full renovation and repositioning in the fourth quarter of 2012.

MIG Real Estate acquired the 90-room Point Inn & Suites Hotel in Jackson, Wyo., from an undisclosed seller and retained its contract with Hospitality Management Advisors Inc. The hotel will undergo a $4.75 million conversion to a major national brand by May 2012.

InterMountain Management and Pillar Hotels and Resorts have entered into an agreement to merge into common ownership. The combined firm will have more than 30,000 rooms under management.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts has entered into a joint venture with TVHG Budget Group Beheer BV to invest in a hotel portfolio in the Netherlands. The deal includes the 112-room Holiday Inn Express Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, and eight hotels which will operate under the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn brands following conversions in late 2012.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Lazarus Manufacturing Inc., a maker of bedding and window treatments for the lodging and health care industries, moved to a new factory near Miami and invested $500,000 in state-of-the-art machinery.

MGM Resorts International has joined The Carbon Measurement Working Group, a team of hotel companies working to standardize carbon footprint measurement and communication for the hospitality industry.

Accor North America’s Motel 6 and Studio 6 chains have completed Green Key certification for their 1,160 combined locations from The Green Key Eco-Rating Program. That process ranks, certifies and inspects hotels and resorts sustainable practices based on a 150-question online self-assessment.
