IHG Expanding in London

(January 2009) posted on Wed Jan 21, 2009 EST

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) plans to open three more Hotel Indigos in London by 2012. The company made that announcement earlier this week, during opening ceremonies for its first property in the city, the 64-room Hotel Indigo London Paddington.

IHG has signed a contract with City Site Estates to open a trio of Hotel Indigo properties at the following London locales: Cannon Street, Philpot Lane and Kensington Church Street. All three will be located in converted existing buildings, as is the case with the Paddington location. "Hotel Indigo suits converting existing buildings, as each hotel is designed to be different," notes IHG chief executive Andy Cosslett. "Conversions generally require less financing and can be up and running more quickly than new-build hotels, which is an attractive option for owners given the current economic conditions."

Hotel Indigo, IHG's boutique hotel brand., currently has 21 hotels in North America, with 56 more in its global development pipeline
