HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS/EXECUTIVE CHANGES
InterContinental Hotels Group hired Robert Morse as senior vice president and chief operating officer for the Americas region. Morse joins IHG from Noble Investment Group, where he was managing principal and chief operating officer.
Einstein Noah Restaurant Group—which operates Einstein Bros. Bagels, Noah's New York Bagels, and Manhattan Bagel brands—named Edna Morris to its board. Morris is a managing director for Axum Capital Partners and ceo and partner in Range Restaurant Group.
Carrols Restaurant Group appointed Clayton Wilhite chairman of its board. Prior to joining the board in 1997, Wilhite served several clients in the restaurant sector, including Burger King Corp.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS
The 261-key Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto will open Jan. 31.
The 248-key DoubleTree by Hilton Washington, D.C./Silver Spring opened in Maryland. The property is completing a multiphase renovation of its guest rooms, dining outlets, public areas and meeting space.
AMResorts opened the Now Spa by Pevonia at Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun following a $450,000 renovation.
Hyatt Hotels Corp. rebranded 38 Hyatt Summerfield Suites and 15 Hotel Sierra hotels under its new Hyatt House extended-stay concept.
Intercontinental Hotels Group opened the 271-key Crowne Plaza Suites Tequendama Bogota adjacent to the 573-key Crowne Plaza Tequendama Bogota in Colombia. The hotel, which was converted from an independent property, underwent an extensive renovation.
MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS/ACQUISITIONS
Brazil Hospitality Group has signed an agreement to acquire hotel management company Grupo Solare. The purchase will mark the beginning of BHG’s operations in Maranhao, Brazil, with the management of eight hotels with a total of 1,100 rooms.
Axum Capital Partners, a Charlotte-based private equity firm, has acquired a controlling interest in Wild Wing Café, a 32-unit restaurant company based in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Summit Hotel Properties real estate investment trust has acquired the 150-key Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Atlanta for $191,000 per key.
The 152-key Hilton Garden Inn Valencia Six Flags California is now managed by Huntington Hospitality Management, an affiliate of the Huntington Hotel Group.
BUSINESS BRIEFS
OW Hospitality is investing an estimated $30 million to expand its carpet manufacturing business internationally with the purchase of eight new high-speed Axminster looms. To facilitate this expansion, parent company Oriental Weavers Group will integrate OWH under its key management structure that’s used for its other flooring-related business.
TRT Holdings will relocate and consolidate its offices from Irving, Texas, to Dallas. The new offices, which will incorporate the headquarters for Omni Hotels & Resorts, will open in the summer of 2013.
Furniture company Mind of Couture opened a showroom at the Designer's Resource of Miami.
AWARDS
Kimberly-Clark Professional has received the 2011 Sustainability Award from Marriott International. The company is the first product supplier to receive the award, which recognizes organizations that help Marriott reach its environmental sustainability goals.
Phillips Collection was recognized as the top accent furniture manufacturer in the industry for 2012 at the ARTS Awards gala event at the Hilton Anatole Ballroom during the Dallas Market.
