HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS:
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG ) announces the following promotions within its senior leadership team for the Americas: Eric Pearson, to chief marketing officer, the Americas; Angela Brav, to chief operating officer, North America; and Jim Anhut, to chief development officer, the Americas.
LaSalle Hotel Properties has hired Alfred Young as its chief operating officer, effective Nov. 3. Young is currently the managing director-hospitality for Caribbean Property Group, and previously worked for LaSalle from 2000-2007 in asset management and acquisition roles. Young will take the place of Michael Barnello, who was named ceo of the real estate investment trust after Jon Bortz retired.
The Betsy, a newly restored hotel in South Beach, Fla., has hired Deborah Briggs as its vice president for philanthropy.
Hunter Douglas Hospitality has named Jennifer Lamonte president and made the following additions to its sales force: Jeff Fuge Group for Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia; Bridget Hankins and Associates for Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming; Larry and Zac Harpin for Nevada; and Doug Sneed for Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. In addition, the company announced it is moving its design studio to a new location in Chicago in the first quarter of 2010, and that Sarah Warren will manage that office in her new role as director of operations in Chicago.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS:
The Hyatt Regency flag is again flying in Hong Kong, with the opening of the 381-key Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui, which spans floors 3 through 24 of the new K11 multi-use development on Hanoi Road. A predecessor Hyatt Regency in Hong Kong closed its doors in 2006.
Hilton Worldwide has signed a management agreement with Otel LLC to open a Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Samara, Russia. The 195-room property is scheduled to open in 2012.
Marriott International has opened its first property in Colombia, the 239-room Marriott Hotel Bogota. The hotel is operated under a franchise agreement with Real Hotels & Resorts of El Salvador.
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened a 179-room Holiday Inn Express in Hamburg, Germany. The property is the first in Europe to feature the flag's updated bedroom design.
R.D. Olson Construction announced it used a fast-track building schedule to complete the $29 million Marriott Long Beach Residence Inn two months ahead of schedule. The architect of record for the 178-room property was the Cuningham Group of Marina del Rey, while Seattle-based Johnson Braund Design Group Inc. created its interiors.
Choice Hotels International has opened the Cambria Suites hotel in Traverse City, Mich. The 92-suite property is owned and operated by Summerside Properties LLC.
The Capital Grille will open a 9,500 square foot restaurant in the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., later this fall.
Interstate Hotels & Resorts has been awarded management contracts for two New Orleans hotels: the 66-room St. Ann/Marie Antoinette Hotel and the 97-room Saint Louis Hotel, both in the French Quarter. Both hotels are owned by MCC Real Estate and Development LLC, a company that Interstate manages five other properties for in the New Orleans market.
SBH Hotels LLC has opened the 95-key Comfort Suites near the Orlando Airport in Orlando, Fla.
Shamin Hotels has opened a 136-suite Residence Inn by Marriott in Chester, Va.
Hostmark Hospitality Group has been selected as the third-party operator of the Candlewood Suites in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Courtyard by Marriott in Orange, Conn., completed a renovation of all public areas.
BUSINESS BRIEFS:
Ascendant Lodging Partners LLC has made a strategic investment in hotel management firm Ardent Hotel Advisors.
Norman Foster and his family have donated $3 million to Yale School of Architecture to fund a visiting professorship in his name. Foster, a Yale alumnus, is chairman and founder of Foster + Partners, a London-based design and architecture firm.
AWARDS:
InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has given its Renovation of the Year award to the 521-room Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza Hotel. The property's updated interiors were created by J/Brice Design International Inc.
