Small Luxury Hotels of the World has appointed Jonathan Slater board chairman. Slater is managing director of The Chester Grosvenor & Spa in the U.K.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. announced it has extended the employment contract of long-time executive Robert Goldstein by two-and-a-half years and promoted him to executive vice president.

OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS AND BRAND NEWS:

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the 210-room Hotel Indigo San Diego, the first member of that flag to achieve LEED certification, as well as the first property in IHG's overall portfolio of more than 4,200 hotels to do so.

A 214-room Hyatt Place is being built on 3.7 acres in the Lake Pointe Town Center, a mixed-use, urban village-style development in Sugar Land, Texas. Joint developers of the property are Woodbine Development Corp. and Hyatt Hotels & Resorts of Chicago have formed a joint venture to develop

Seasons 52, a fresh grill and wine bar restaurant owned by Darden Restaurants Inc., will open its 10th unit in spring 2010, in the King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, Pa.

Tishman Construction Corp. announced completion of the $17-million, fast-track renovation of the 143-room Copley Square Hotel. The property, built in 1891 in Boston's Back Bay district, is owned by CapStar Copley LLC.

A 182-room Embassy Suites Hotel has opened in a former federal office building in downtown Buffalo, N.Y. The property was updated by Steiglitz Snyder Architecture for owners UniQuest Delaware LLC. The hotel, managed by Brookwood Hospitality, features Embassy's new one-room suite concept.

The FIVE bistro and bar has opened in the newly renovated Hotel Shattuck Plaza in Berkeley, Calif., featuring Bay Area chef Scott Howard in its kitchen.

The Tazewell Hotel & Suites in Norfolk, Va., and the Governor Dinwiddie Hotel & Suites in Portsmouth, Va., have joined The Ascend Collection of historic, boutique and unique hotels by Choice Hotels International Inc.

The Grand Geneva hotel in Lake Geneva, Wis., has completed a multimillion dollar renovation that included upgrades to its 355 guest rooms and WELL Spa + Salon, along with the addition of a new outdoor terrace featuring a 14-foot outdoor fireplace. The property is owned Marcus Hotels & Resorts.
