IHG Signs Deals in Moscow, Edinburgh

(March 2009) posted on Wed Mar 11, 2009 EDT

The world's largest hotel chain, IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), will open the world's largest Holiday Inn in Moscow in 2014, thanks to an investment of more than $100 million by Russia's Crocus Group. Located in the sprawling Crocus City retail and complex, the property will have 1,000 guestrooms, 27,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, three restaurants and a 13,000-sq.ft. health club. Size has its benefits. Crocus is giving IHG an "historic" 20-year management contract.

IHG has 13 more hotels in its Russian pipeline, but development isn't all at Europe's eastern end. The group is teaming up with Tiger Development to open its first InterContinental in Scotland. The hotel will be part of Tiger's $344 million plan to re-energize Edinburgh's Haymarket. Award-winning Edinburgh architects Richard Murphy, CDA and Sutherland Hussey will draw up designs for the redevelopment.
