HIRINGS/PROMOTIONS
Interstate Hotels & Resorts promoted Aaron Greenman to senior vice president development for Europe. Greenman was formerly head of business development for the company's management joint venture in India, JHW Interstate.
Yen, the W Taipei hotel's signature on-site restaurant, hired Jereme Leung as its consulting chef. The restaurant is the W brand's first Chinese restaurant.
HEI Hotels & Resorts promoted Joe Shurmur to general manager of Detroit Metro Airport Marriott, and Randi Hamilton to general manager of the Detroit Marriott Southfield.
OPENINGS/RENOVATIONS/BRAND NEWS
The Capital Hilton, which opened in Washington, D.C., as the Statler Hotel in 1943, has completed a renovation of its 544 guest rooms. Hilton will update the exterior entrance, lobby, restaurant, lobby bar and health club in 2011.
The 171-room Doubletree Hotel Los Angeles- Norwalk opened after completing its conversion from a Marriott property. Renovations included refreshed guest rooms, meeting areas and public spaces.
California Pizza Kitchen opened its first full-service restaurant in Pittsburgh.
IHG signed a ten-year license agreement with Las Vegas Sands to affiliate The Venetian and The Palazzo with the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts global portfolio. The agreement gives the two Las Vegas resorts access to IHG's global operating systems.
BUSINESS BRIEFS
Hansgrohe AG, a German-based manufacturer of mixers, showers and shower systems for the hospitality market, has opened a branch in Brazil.
Behringer Harvard acquired the 311-key Aston Kauai Beach at Makaiwa in a joint venture with JMI Realty, a private real estate investment company. The hotel will be rebranded as a Courtyard by Marriott.
TPG Hospitality, a Pocaccianti Group company, will manage eight Lodgian Hotels, including properties bearing the Doubletree, Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Radisson brands.
AWARDS
Wyndham Hotels and Resorts named David Cavallaro of Marshall Hotels & Resorts the 2009 general manager of the year. Cavallaro is general manager of The George Washington, a Wyndham Grand Hotel in Winchester, Va.
