Hospitality design projects are all gorgeous. Here’s how to make yours stand out.

As we head into show season for the hospitality industry and get ready for Boutique Design New York (sponsored by our sister publication, Boutique Design, Nov. 13 and 14 at Javits North in New York), my inbox is flooded with press releases for the “hottest, newest, latest” of what manufacturers have to offer. It’s kind of like being in the front row at Fashion Week—a bonanza of creativity that, simply put, looks amazing. Clicking through dozens of wallpaper, surfacing or furniture releases, it’s hard to find even one that doesn’t excite.

So, when vendors ask me what makes me look twice, I have to say that, sometimes, it’s the presentation. Recently, Anne Martin Marketing Communications  sent me a release on wallpaper. Four different wallpaper from Arte, Eijffinger, Ronald Redding Designs and Thibaut  were paired with fashion shots from fall runways and magazines. The worlds of fashion and hospitality design have always been linked—and never more so than right now, with many manufacturers bringing in big name fashionista designer and an explosion of hotels helmed by the couture world’s greatest (that’s why our summer issue focused on fashion-inspired hotels). So, the presentation was timely—and very chic. It was fun to see a creative take on what would otherwise have been a pretty, but predictable, showcase of four lovely patterns. But, it’s also noteworthy that the release keeps the verbiage right on target, providing the kind of basic information a designer or editor would need—without having to surf the web for more.

It’s not practical to make every press release a work of art. Sometimes, just having everything in one place is just as compelling. For Hospitality Style submissions, that means a high resolution, 8 in. by 10 in. (20 cm by 25 cm) at 300 dpi image and a write of 50 words or less that includes technical specifications and the website address. So, let us know what’s new.
