India remains a popular expansion site for several major hotel operators -- including Marriott International, Global Hyatt Corp. and Carlson Hotels -- despite the global economic downturn, the HVS Asia Pacific Newsletter reports. Marriott is scheduled to add seven new hotels in India in 2009, and plans seven more there by 2012. Hyatt, which currently has six properties in India, expects to add 20 new hotels there by 2013. And Carlson is looking to add 50 properties with a total of about 6,000 rooms to its India portfolio by 2011.
