InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has opened the InterContinental Kiev in the Ukraine. The hotel's 11-story exterior, a creation of Ukrainian architect Sergey Babushkin, features an angular marble-and-glass façade that blends blends classical and contemporary features, highlighted by a 10-foot statue of the Greek Goddess Nike by Ukrainian sculptor Michael Reva.
The hotel's interiors, by British designer John Tweedie, offer "an authentic perspective of the region's rich heritage ... reminiscent of noble Ukrainian homes," according to the company. The lobby and public areas feature cream and pale yellow marble floors, black marble columns, handmade Italian furniture by Armando Rho, specially-commissioned Eastern European art and lighting fixtures.
The hotel's 272 guest rooms and suites are classical in style, and feature furniture by British designer David Salmon, silk drapes and upholstery in light blue, gold and burgundy accents and traditional wood detailing.
Also on site are three upscale restaurants and a Club InterContinental lounge.
