High-rise tower houses more than 1000 hotel rooms
The mixed-use Hotels and Residences at L.A. Live development has earned LEED Silver status from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The certification covers the 52-story L.A. Live high-rise tower, which houses The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, the JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. Live and The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live.
Designed by California-based architecture firm Gensler, the tower spans a total 2 million square feet on 2.5 acres of land in downtown Los Angeles. L.A. L.A. Live, which opened last year, houses more than 1,000 hotel rooms, 224 private residences, 100,000 square feet of function space and the 8,000 square foot Ritz-Carlton Spa, Los Angeles.
“This innovative building represents what is great about Los Angeles today, and also provides a view of the city’s blueprint for tomorrow,” said Lance Williams, executive director, USGBC-LA. “It’s the perfect intersection of sophistication and sustainability.”
Javier Cano, L.A. Live’s general manager, says the LEED certification reflects the complex’s goal of offering guests “the best in responsible, energy-efficient green building design and construction.”
L.A.Live’s eco-friendly design features include:
* Energy-efficient windows, designed to maximize daylight.
* Water-saving plumbing fixtures and filtering of storm water runoff.
* Cool roof installation, covered parking and water-efficient rooftop landscaping, reducing “heat island” effects
* Use of low-volatile organic compound materials to minimize in-air toxins
* Use of recycled materials throughout the building, in addition to the major use of recycled steel in the building’s overall construction.
