Luxury locale to be based in ex-IBM building
Langham Hotels and Resorts plans to open a five-star hotel in the former IBM building in downtown Chicago. Langham is teaming with Oxford Capital Group LLC to develop a luxury hotel in the Mies van der Rohe-designed building at 330 N. Wabash.
The new 330-key hotel is expected to open in 2012 and will occupy floors 2 through 13 in the 52-story building. The Langham complex is also expected to occupy a portion of the first floor and its riverfront plaza.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Oxford and Langham are taking over the project from a prior joint venture that included Oxford and LaSalle Hotel Properties Inc. “We love the waterfront location and iconic building,” said David Hennefer, president of Pacific Eagle Holdings, a U.S.-based affiliate of Langham.
The Chicago hotel will be Langham's third locale in the U.S.; it also operates The Langham Huntington in Pasadena, Calif., and The Langham Hotel Boston.
